My 2025 Trend Predictions
Recently, I was listening to Emma Chamberlain’s Anything Goes podcast episode where she shared her 2025 fashion trend predictions and it inspired me to make my own list of 2025 predictions. I loved her trend predictions, but I have a few different ideas and I wanted to expand on those. Here’s my take:
Emma’s Predictions I Agree With
Minimalism and '90s-inspired clothing: Think effortless jeans and a white t-shirt.
Grunge and cool-toned makeup: A big shift from the warm, blushed looks we’ve seen recently. Picture no blush, no inner-corner highlights, no faux freckles, and soft pink shimmer lipstick. À la Gabbriette.
Personal style over fast fashion: It’s all about finding your favorite signature pieces and wearing them over and over again: your two best pairs of jeans, your go-to jacket, your favorite shoes - all personalized and worn creatively.
Asymmetrical designs: Like a simple button-down shirt where the buttons run off to the side.
Celebrating your natural beauty: Embracing quirky features instead of covering them up.
Loving this!!!
Emma’s Predictions I Hope Don’t Come Back
While some nostalgia is great, there are a few trends I’m crossing my fingers don’t resurface (plz dear god):"
Skinny jeans (okay… as long as they’re not jeggings)
Indie sleaze (think 2013 tumblr, American Apparel)
Stripes (hey I don’t mind a stripe here and there but let’s keep it limited)
Polka dots (plz no)
Respectfully... let’s leave these in the archives. xoxo
My Own 2025 Trend Predictions
As many of you know, I’m very chronically online and obsessed with fashion and finding patterns in the many TikTok videos and IG carousels I consume. So with that in mind, here are my personal fashion predictions for this year:
Earthy Elements
I think we will continue to see earthy colors, natural textures, and organic shapes everywhere. Think muted browns, moss greens, and tactile fabrics that feel connected to nature.
Personalization & DIY Details
Fashion will become even more personal, such as:
Adding piercings to sunglasses or shirts
DIY embroidering images onto clothing
Customizing favorite pieces instead of constantly buying new ones, like adding patches, colors, chains, etc.
Post-Apocalyptic Aesthetic
Imagine Dune meets Corporate America:
Large shield sunglasses with lightly tinted, see-through lenses
Neutral colors with a pop of unexpected color or pattern
Structured, powerful silhouettes (exaggerated hips, sharply tailored coats, strong layering)
Mesh Fabrics & Statement Staples
Simple, staple items will stay, but with an unexpected twist.
A cream sweater with diagonal buttons
A basic jacket with architectural cuts
Mesh pieces that are delicate and flowy paired with strong, structured pieces.
Intentional layering that creates texture and depth.
Vintage Revival: Furs, Leathers, and Knits
Expect to see a lot of:
Thrifted and vintage furs and leather to be sustainable and luxe.
Knits: especially if they’re hand-knitted (bonus points for Norwegian sweaters).
Oversized coats that are ankle-length, dramatic, and absolutely drowning you in fabric in the best way.
Accessories and Footwear
Tote bags will make a full comeback (practicality wins!)
Maximalist, organic jewelry — mixing gold and silver with big, sculptural designs.
Pointy-toe, pointy-heel boots will dominate.
Heels with unconventional shapes (à la Dries Van Noten).
"Pirate toe" shoes - shoutout to Miista.
Tension-Friendly Hairstyles
A softer, more tousled bun instead of the slickbacks we’ve been seeing recently. Think the Olsen twin tuck or a Pamela Anderson messy updo.
Athleisure Evolves
Athleisure will start adapting to professional life - like yoga pants redesigned with belt loops, pleats, and elevated fabrics, merging comfort with office-appropriate style.
